Kids Charts

Kids need kids charts! Why? Let me explain.

We want our kids to grow into responsible young adults. One day our kids will be out of the house. (I promise you this does happen.) When they get out of the house, we want our kids to be able to take good care of themselves.

Without kids charts, our kids won’t stand a chance of accomplishing when they become young adults everything they need to do in a timely fashion. Nothing will get done! ;o)

Some kids charts keep chores scheduled. Some kids charts keep money managed. Some kids charts keep those important play dates scheduled. Let’s hear it for different kinds of kids charts!

Probably the most important of the kids charts is the one to manage money. Money! Oh, money! How kids love to spend money! What would life be without all that wonderful green stuff?

Kids need money to manage. How do your kids acquire money? Do they get an allowance? Do they get paid for doing chores? Are they young entrepreneurs with businesses of their own?

I’m not a strong believer in allowances, any kind of allowance. I believe an allowance can lead to a sense of entitlement. I believe in creative thinking and entrepreneurial skills. I believe in fostering financial independence and I want to help kids find kid-friendly, creative ways to make their own money.

I want my two kids (Xanthe and Quinn) to grow up secure with their money. I want to give them a strong foundation in coins and the value they represent. I want them to learn what constitutes a financial priority. There are two kids charts to manage money in our house! ;o)

Kids Allowance It’s your decision to give or not to give allowances. Knowing how important this decision is for parents, I consulted the top 25 “kids and money” experts, family coaches, and highly successful entrepreneurs to share their personal opinions and tips on whether or not to give allowances and how important kids charts are.

No matter where kids money comes from (a loving relative or friend, by you with an allowance or paid chores, or by their own enterprising ways), kids charts for managing their money are important to create. It’s really very important!

The other kids charts are also important to create. The kids charts for chores and those for scheduling play dates come in second. Are there any other kids charts you can think of that kids would make good use of? I bet there must be many more.

Here’s to encouraging our kids to create lots of kids charts and empowering them with life skills and money savvy so they will be Clever with their Dough and have the positive self-esteem needed to live happy fulfilling lives as adults.
